Partner BrilliantTips highlights some traditional British eats (and their sometimes funny names). If you’re visiting the UK, you can both sample and have a smile with what’s considered people’s food – and who knows, it may help you enter the psyche of the locals in some unexpected ways.

Homemade Crumpets, by Theodore Scott
The article begins with the traditional Scottish dish Haggis (made by filling a sheep’s stomach with fat, oatmeal, stock, salt, pepper, minced lungs, liver and heart then boiling in a pan of water – sounds pretty tasty, yes?) Sausages and mashed potatoes (bangers and mash) make an appearance next.
Black pudding (blood and fat meat sausage) from Northern Ireland/Scotland is mentioned too, as are spotted dick (a cake with dried fruit and suet) and the traditional British fry-up (a.k.a. full breakfast) with eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans, black pudding…)
As you can see it’s all good old healthy fare, right up there with other slimmer’s delights, guaranteed to give you dodgy breath and a heart attack if eaten regularly.
Interestingly enough however, most of these are pretty tasty foods. And we haven’t even mentioned fish and chips, Yorkshire pudding or cream teas yet….
What are you waiting for – read the original article for full recipes complete with piccies, then grab an air ticket for the land of tasty grub.
But seriously, for some great British street and cafe style food, visit the colourful markets of Camden Town of London, UK.
