Partner Eurocheapo hunted down the perfect breakfast in Florence and ain’t shy about letting us know the ins and outs of it all. I guess what, with a busy day going around all the art, culture and history the city has to offer, you’re bound to be needing a good fuelling start to your day.

The idea is that in Florence you do the Italiia thing and start off with pastries (sounds good so far!) Cornetto and sfogliatina (croissant and clam-shaped cream filled pastry) with a foamy coffee, preferably a large cappuccino, is what’s meant here!
But really, any strong coffee and pastry with (chocolate, jam, marmalade, ricotta cheese… take your pick) or even without filling is perfectly acceptable.
Pasticcerias (vs coffee shops) win hands down in the early – and not so early – times of the day. A place on a quiet corner of the San Lorenzo market, even serving traditional Carnival munchies, is recommended, as is another in Via Calzaiuoli between the Duomo and Piazza Signoria, the latter particulalrly for the chocolate and ricotta sfogliatina.
A discreet cafe/pastry shop by the main train station’s next on the list, promising a sweet home-made (ful)filling breakfast.
For those who miss a big, American style savoury eat in the early hours of daytime, there are places recommended as well, just read the original article!
After one of these recommended multi-callorie starts, you might need to walk it off in one of the most famous Italian gardens first, at least before you’re ready to face the rest of your day!
