Partner 501 Places has been partying Balkan style in Macedonia’s historic lakeside town of Ohrid. The partying after-effects may not necessarily be an experience for everyone!

Macedonia Ochrid, by Fontankadom
The beautiful old town of Ohrid on the shores of the eponymous Lake on the Macedonian/Albanian border, boasts a hilltop fortress, an ancient amphitheatre and several old picturesque churches. To clarify, this is part of old Yugoslavia and not Greece’s identically named northern province.
But, Ohrid’s also a top party destination for Eastern European holiday makers and the local DJs are convinced that the loudest’s best! A good late breakfast, a swim and a lunchtime siesta to avoid the harsh high temperatures should also help with the previous night’s sleeplessness – just behave as the locals do and you’ll be used to it within 24-48 hours!
Macedonia’s also pretty handy for getting to the delights of Serbia, or visiting Saranda, Albania’s beautiful riviera city.
