Partner blog Mr & Mrs Smith introduce an Amsterdam residence with a difference (well, several actually!) Europe travel can be taxing at times and occasionally it’s important to be at a place less faceless and with a hint of home (well, as you’d wish it to be at least!)

The establishment brims with lived-in eccentricity and carries rooms with names like Shakespeare, Goethe, Schubert, Picasso and Tolkien. The decor is was as left by the last owner – hey, if it works, why fix it? If you like it sparse, don’t bother: this hotel flies in the face of minimalism! By contrast, if you’re even distantly related to the Victorians, you’ll probably love it!
This typically attractive Amsterdam old canal house has just a brass bell by the classic green door and will provide comfort and atmosphere (at a price!) but then you can’t stay at one of the best hotels in Amsterdam on the cheap.
