The photos were taken in early spring, so the ponds were still messy. they generally clean them in April. Some of them remain like that because they grow pond plants there, so they need the marshy feel. 

Also, the botanic garden belongs to the University, which is very poor at the moment. There are serious cut backs and I heard rumors about a possible transfer of part of the garden, which would mean the end of a beautiful historic institution in Pisa. Let&#039;s hope they rethink the whole thing.
