Botanic Garden of Pisa, by AnnaKika

The beautifully written and illustrated article includes many photos and even a couple of vids. You can tell the author likes trees, as there’s a great representation of some magnificent specimens.

The gardens are extensive, include an arboretum (an area dedicated to mild climate, sensitive pretty trees). There are water fountains (not necessarily always working!) and even some ponds that could do with occasional de-congesting (isĀ  it possible that cutbacks have eventually arrived in the 16th century gardens?) Nevertheless, the Pisa Botanics can be a sea of tranquility, particularly during the busy summer tourist season.

Visiting Tuscany on a Europe tour can be an amazing experience and Pisa should not be considered for its leaning tower alone! Why not simply take a walk between historic bridges down the River Arno.

Thank you for posting this! I do love trees! :o ) And flowers in general. I am a greenery freak! LOL

The photos were taken in early spring, so the ponds were still messy. they generally clean them in April. Some of them remain like that because they grow pond plants there, so they need the marshy feel.

Also, the botanic garden belongs to the University, which is very poor at the moment. There are serious cut backs and I heard rumors about a possible transfer of part of the garden, which would mean the end of a beautiful historic institution in Pisa. Let’s hope they rethink the whole thing.

    Happy Easter!

Gloria – I do hope that the university find the money to keep the Botanic Gardens going.
