Fellow bloggers Maiden Voyage reveal four obscure  Italian UNESCO  treasures. UNESCO world heritage sights are in themselves good enough reasons to travel in Europe.

The list contains the archaeological frozen-in-time remains of Pompeii, the Trulli houses in Puglia, the rock drawings of Val Camonica  in Lombardy and Cinque Terre.

The Cammuni people are responsiible for over 140,000 Val Camonica rock drawings which they made over 8,000 years starting about 11,000 years ago. When visiting Pompeii, avoid the crowds and head to Herculaneum which also got buried under volcanic ash on the same day (24th AD79) when Vesuvius erupted.  The Trulli houses of Alberobello even include a church in the style. And as for Cinque Terre, it, like Spoleto in Umbria, is a brilliant location for that extended hike!

Italy has about 40 such UNESCO heritage sights, so, if you’re a fan you can certainly plan your Europe vacations on that basis for the next few years!
