Partner blog Travel Calling describe the mysterious spot of Glendalough near Dublin. It makes for a most unusual visit on a Europe tour.

Glendalough, Ireland, by Rambling Traveler
The whole place, an historic Irish village of seven churches in a valley with two lakes, old cemeteries and a tangle of small bridges, was started by St. Kevin, a hermit monk. That was around the start of the 7th century BC and when complete it contained workshops, guesthouses, farms and an infirmary. However, today’s first impression of the ancient settlement is one of complex austerity.

A walk through the ancient ruins while allowing your knowledge of Irish history and imagination take control is highly recommended and should make for a most memorable experience!
Dublin is great for families, and a fantastic location for a European vacation. A day trip to Glendalough should please everyone. Judging by the pictures above (if the weather permits) you should also pack a picnic!
