Well, I don’t know which nationality is supposed to buy these gifts, but we Brits do feel rather impoverished at the moment, what with the falling £ and the general economic gloom. Still I thought, I’d better have a look at this article, as I might be missing out on some wonderful bargains. Also, who knows, they might become even better bargains if the economic outlook suddenly improves!

The suggested gifts range from traditional chocolate galletta biscuits (cookies!) to stockings and plenty in between, so the authors certainly do not lack in imagination! Other edibles include a sauce made of olive oil and garlic (alioli), procuitto and various types of pate.

I wasn’t too sure of the live pigeon idea, suffice to say we have plenty of our own around London’s Trafalgar Square, thanks!

One thing they forgot to mention is Spanish property, which seems excellent value just now, but could fall in price even more as new builds keep coming to the market with not many buyers left! We certainly did not think property was a great ‘gift’ on a recent our place in the Spanish sun tour!

Of course, another way to save money in Spain is to follow the cheap food and free drinks suggestion! Although that article was specific to Madrid, I’m sure the idea can be applied to most other large Spanish cities with equal chances of success!

    Bananas.
Perhaps I should expand. Here in the Canaries, the tourism authorities have been busy packaging one of our proudest assets. Departing visitors can now pick up a bouquet of bananas before boarding a flight home. I just pity the poor sods on the receiving end of such a souvenir.

    Thanks for the contribution, Joe.
For a moment there I thought you were referring to my favourite Woody Allen oldie!
