Blogging partner eurocheapo is informing us of a little known fact about Belgium: its Coastal Tram traverses the longest (and a most charming one at that) route on the planet!

Belgium Coastal tram, by johnzebedee
The overall journey that is actually possible can take an interested traveller from almost the Dutch border at the northeast end of the tram route to near the French border at the southwest end. This is about 70km in total, with a stop about every one km! Every so often the stops bring one to individual, but thus (tram-) linked, communities.
A must-get-off-and-visit stop is Oostende, about half-way in the journey, a charming fishing port comunity rich in interesting walks, statues and even a world-class casino! Another notable stop is De Haan, a recently emerging beauty spot, built on the location of a previously impoverished shrimp fishermans shanty-town.
Art galore in the form of statues can be seen from the tram all along the route, this particular area being the birthplace of surrealism.
The 5 Euro 24-hour ticket for the tram+connecting buses to inland Flanders villages is surely a steal! So, just getting the thermos flask filled up and a few sarnies thrown together will set you up for a cheap and very cheerful experience well off the beaten track!
Well, I always knew it, and this is even more proof if any were meeded, that Belgium does not deserve the boring tag.
