Europe a la Carte’s Lindsay Sydenham suggests renting a cottage in Finland, on the basis of her own wonderful past experiences. Indeed, there are a lot of reasons why one might wish to do so, not least for the thousands of lakes making it a unique experience.

The very private quaint home-away-from-home cottage accommodations exist in abundance on various lakes in Finland, making one’s choice depending on desired activities relatively easy. Deals exist for renting year round to weekly regardless of numbers, therefore suiting families and groups on a budget.
Good summer weather activities during the exceedingly long days include swimming, fishing, canoeing, biking and sailing, while ice swimming (brrrr!!! – not for me thanks!), trekking, skiing and snowboarding are for the short winter days, followed by wonderful times by open fires and saunas.
The Finish experience is incomplete without a self-discovery, one-ness-with-nature cottage stay!
Once you’ve had enough of the quiet, you should also visit Finland’s beautiful capital Helsinki, where some super attractions may be cheap to reasonably priced and Turku, a really classy city.
