Partner Travel Wonders of the World have a post on an Isle of Skye Scotch Whisky. Although I’m a non-(alcohol) drinking Scot, the subject of whiskies from iconic locations of my country of origin is nevertheless rather close to my heart!

A Fine Whisky for a Fine Fall Day, by Nurse Kate
A guided tour through the iconic distillery with copper stills and oak barrels, complete with an offering of a Free sample follows in the article. There is also an excellent description of the explosive qualities of the First Sip, which imparts spicy-sweet flavours resulting partially from the natural purification of the highly coloured water through the local peat bog.
I hope you got all this, and I could go on and on!
The article also gives drinking advice (e.g. never dilute your whisky!) and suggests that when drinking, you may actually be sharing with an angel (or two), as they also account for a share of the barrel’s content during the maturation process!
Although traditional, Scotland is also a changing nation, as is the rest of the UK. Therefore, you may also wish to take some advice about sampling great whisky that’s less known than the Scots tipple, e.g. Welsh whisky!

I’d recommend a distillery tour to anyone visiting Scotland (drinker or not). The process is fascinating — steeped in history and tradition. Just last week we visited the Talisker distillery and a couple weeks before, the Oban. If you’re traveling with family, don’t worry the kids are invited (8 years and up). Sorry, no free sample at the end of the tour for the wee ones.

[...] they of course miss out on the atmosphere, true feel and some of the best this land has to offer. Scots whisky and the island of Skye are not a million miles away from there [...]
