Partner London Hotels Insight publish their second article on free WiFi, in the form of an open letter to hoteliers. The original article illustrated the strong need for complimentary WiFi and was widely re-Tweeted.

The open letter initially, and quite correctly, acknowledges the Hotel as a business that simply ‘cannot please everyone’.

It then launches straight into 8 compelling reasons for free WiFi to become available. These include the modern day necessity for traveller to keep in touch, the low cost of providing free WiFi, and, quite interestingly that it is in the hotels own interest to do so in order not to behave like a dinosaur (and therefore be subject to extinction).

The open letter also lists influential travel bloggers that support free WiFi and suggests a couple of practical ways to aid hoteliers in its implementation.

I guess hoteliers should be acting quickly on this, lest they become known for expecting their guests to stay in the dark ages! On this subject, a list of hotels WITH free WiFi wouldn’t go amiss for deciding where to stay; hoteliers would be falling over themselves to provide this service in order to be included!

Totally agree! I’m amazed by the number of hotels (including lots of 4 and even 5 stars) that still don’t offer free WiFi. They seem to continue considering WiFi as a luxury optional, when it is pure commodity. Having to pay for WiFi makes me feel as if I had to pay for TV (which, by the way, I don’t watch so PLEASE…. give me internet connection!!!). Ridiculous…

Simon – I feel the same way. I don’t mind so much if at least it’s a good hotel deal eg a £9 room at Travelodge in the UK, when I at least I can buy some time cheaply on mobile internet ie £2 day (as long as I’m in an urban area). However I have stayed at some hotels charging £80 – £100 a night who the want to charge an additional £10 – £15 for 24 hrs wifi.
