Fellow bloggers Casa Dolcetto point out a hidden gem, the mini-city (population just over 4,000!) of Sabbioneta in Italy’s Lombardy region.

Sabbioneta#2, by Roby Ferrari
The mini-city lies on the left bank of the river Po near Mantua, within a star-shaped fortress. It was built by a famous (and wealthy!) melancholic, Vespasiano Gonzaga Colonna, in the 16th century.
Sabbioneta is a recommended day trip from Milan, itself either an excellent autumnal leaf or winter vacation escape.
Have you visited Sabbioneta? If so what did you most like about it?
