The exhaustive list starts quite gently. The tone is initially set with old favourites such as Paris and Rome, then suggested places in the UK, such as the Peak District, the Brecon Beacons and the South Downs.
The tempo is then upped to places just at/out of Europe’s borders such as Istanbul, Athens and even Marakesh, before going into destination categories like ‘stepping back in time’ to visitng places such as Stonehenge or the Lascaux Cave paintings in France’s Dordogne.
For the aspiring wealthy and credit crunch escapees, Monte Carlo, Monaco and St. Tropez may be appropriate, of course after visiting London’s Harrods for those special little luxuries.
By contrast, different folk may prefer a bit of hard play in locations such as Brighton, Ibiza, or even London’s notorious School Disco. You could also get that adrenalin flowing when being chased by bulls in Pamplona, or throwing tomatoes in Spain’s Bunol.
For some refinement, escape to Britain’s only natural thermal spa in Bath, then visit UNESCO world heritage sights like the Giant’s causeway in Ireland and Andalucia’s Alhambra Palace.
You get the picture and the list goes on; I’m sure you can come up with a lot of similar ideas on your own. But isn’t it nice to have your thoughts confirmed, while also in the form of a useful list for the times when you’re seeking inspiration!
