One of the top tips for the capital of this Spanish island is not to restrict yourself to flying by Ryanair, but also to look at the offerings of Air Berlin, the market leader at Palma airport. Upon arrival forget about taxis, as the frequent public Line 1 bus will take you to the city centre in about 20 minutes.
There are also tips on free entertainment and sideshows (even flamenco dancing!), as well as suggestions on how to best get on with the locals. There are ideas for interesting walks, how to save the 4euro entry fee at Almudaina Palace (former home to the Mallorcan kings), and suggestions on quality budget food and hotels.

Great tips for such a lovely place! We were there last year in May and had such a wonderful time!
If you’re going to stay somewhere else in Mallorca than in Palma and renting a car, be sure to check out prices in Palma first and not at your end destination, because we got a much cheaper alternative doing that! Like 3 days extra!
If you’re going from Sweden to Palma: also check out Norwegian.se, who has some departures for 599 SEK (Norway slightly more expensive) right now.

lc – thanks for your car hire and flight tips. I know that car hire prices can vary greatly depending on the pick up and drop off location. Often there’s an airport surcharge but then it is convenient to pick up your car at the airport to drive straight to your destination.
