Europe a la Carte reports on a last-minute request to join ‘Mission Iceland’, part of the Canary Island’s “We Share Our Fortune, Operation No Winter Blues” initiative.

Apparently 100 Canary Island residents were selected as Ambassadors to spread the message “Say no to Winter” to northern Europeans (we love it – please, more messages like this!). In return, they will recruit 100 Icelanders to visit the Canary Islands (this is getting better and better!) to sample almost guaranteed sunshine, thereby banishing their Winter Blues!

Extraordinary! It will be very interesting to see what future effect this will have on the respective tourism traffic of the two destinations. But whatever happens, the idea is so cheeky and straight out of the box, that it certainly puts a smile on my face!

Ah, I’m jealous. Iceland has always seemed quite an interesting destination. Would prefer a trip there in July rather than October though, won’t it be quite cold?

Jack – Iceland was very interesting and beautiful. It was pretty cold when I was there. July and August are certainly the peak months for visitors but there were still quite a few tourist around in October.
