The article contains excellent suggestions on cheap, good food, e.g. ‘many of the best tapas bars in Madrid are located in “Zona Centro,” the liveliest neighborhood for nightlife’. Also, a list of favorite restaurants for an evening of excellent tapas tasting, such as Malaspina in Calle Cadiz, La Tia Cebolla in Calle de la Cruz and Il Picollino de Farfalla in Calle de las Huertas.
As to the all important issue of free drinks, the gem of the suggestion is to hit the Calle Huertas, then to let the bars do all the work, by permitting them to offer you fruit liqueurs such as ‘chupito’ as you casually walk past their premises! Obviously, a good speed of downing the freebies and moving on to the next offerings bags more of the non-paying kind!
