Partner Off to Europe produced a most useful guide on how to negotiate Paris by public transport. There’s an extensive and efficient public transportation network, making it relatively straightforward to get around, with the three main forms being the commuter express train RER, the Metro (underground) and the RATP city buses.

Velib bikes in Paris, by markhillary
The guide provides tips for riding the RER and metro, explains the most efficient way to use them, makes useful comparisons and provides some examples. It also points out that, for tourists, buses should be mostly used for leisure city exploration and not for speed. As some of the cheaper hotels in Paris may be some distance from the city centre, this is worth bearing in mind.
On this last note, and for the more daring amongst you, there’s also the city’s Velib bicycle hire scheme, offering cycle hire at 750 different Paris locations since 2007.
Now that you know how to get around, you may also wish to follow these links for an ideal location to stay in Paris, great and novel art in the 20th arrondissement, and even a qualified opinion as to whether you should go up the Eiffel tower!
Have you re-visited the city of lights recently, and have you spotted anything truly unusual that you may wish to share?
