I first found it difficult to believe partner Experience Tuscany’s piece on Vincigliata a haunted castle between Florence and Fiesole. After all, Tuscany is best known for gorgeous landscapes and culture . Nevertheless, the ghost of maiden Donna Bianca, killed during a feud, apparently ‘wanders restlessly on summer days over the crenellated tops of the castle’.

Tuscany: Castelli del Chianti, by Renzo Ferrante
The medieval Vincigliata castle, totally reconstructed by 1865, originally dates from the 14th century and contains original Florentine Via de la Scalla frescoes from the same era.
If already in Florence, Vincigliata castle may be worth a visit, if only for its setting amongst luscious woods and its unique frescoes. And who knows, if your departure is somehow delayed, you may even register a floating female soul chasing Tuscany’s fading sunlight!
Personally, I’d rather drive through Tuscany for something like a local poroduce festival (sagre) in June, or even follow the flowery route!
