Partner Experience Tuscany describes the little known Lunigiana wine road in the north of the region. The trail commences south of Montignoso, proceeds via the Apennines, then through the municipalities of Massa Carrara and Fosdinovo, and finally descends in the Lunigiana region to arrive at Pontremoli.

Wine grapes multi color, by Otto Phokus
The terrain is great in its variation, with hills overlooking the coast, flatlands and forested areas, with colour and feel changing under the mild autumn sun. According to the authors, ‘you can discover the still intact landscape of the Apuan and Lunigiana coast, appreciate the rugged peaks of the Apuan Alps, the steep hills of the Apennines that offer stunning open views of the inland.’
Of course, autumn is a great time to visit Italy in any case, so, the idea of a dedicated wine-road trip through the fantastic countryside of Tuscany sounds most alluring!
