Off beat Travel’s blogger Caroline Crutchley is informing and entertaining us with a post on the province of Ragusa in southern Sicily, Italy.

Fancy horse and cart, Sicily, by Archway Andres
According to Caroline, the Ragusa area has ‘the blue Mediterranean Sea lapping its southern shoreline, and from the high peaks of the Hiblean Mountains to the coastal plain it is of outstanding natural beauty, with great river gorges converging on cities clinging to the cliffs like limpets.’ Well, all this sounds riveting, even though I’m predominantly a flat-land hiker! There is also a tempting description of the three UNESCO Baroque-style cities of Ragusa, Modica, and Scicli, and even a factoid about chocolate which I leave for you to discover by reading the actual article!
Sicily is an island that has evaded me so far, but it is firmly fixed in my radar. I shall be taking Caroline’s suggestion and, when visiting, make a point of dedicating some days to Ragusa!
