Podluze, Ukraine: Ever changing borders in Europe

Reading Andy Jarosz’s guest post “Ghosts of the Past” on the Velvet Escape’s Blog highlighted how many times some European borders have been redrawn over the last seventy years.

Andy’s family was deported from the then Polish village of Podluze by Stalin’s troops in the early 1940s. Podluze was under German occupation for the later part of WW2 before becoming part of the Soviet Union until independence in 1991.

I can only imagine the personal upheaval and grief that was endured by those whose lives were turned upside down with the unfolding of events over the decades.
