The Italian city of Ravenna, in Emilia-Romagna, is renowned for its mosaics, a legacy of the Byzantine rule during the 5th – 7th centuries. Although many of the churhes containing the mosaics look pretty nondescript from the exterior, you’ll be amazed at the intricacy and vibrant colours of the mosaics. The Austrian artist Klim’s work was greatly influenced by his visit to Ravenna in 1903

The famous Italian writer and poet Dante is buried in Ravenna.
I visited Ravenna all too briefly in April 2004 on the drive from Lombardy to Le Marche. I wish I’d had more time to spend there. Have you visited Ravenna, what did you like most about it?
