The French Government have reduced the rate of Tax (VAT) chargeable by cafes and restaurants from almost 20% to 5.5% in an effort to get customers out drinking and eating again. This tax cut will mean that customers food and drink bills will fall by around 12%. For us Brits, it’ll help offset the reduction in the value of the UK Pound against the Euro.

Paris Restaurant by misterjingo
Time will tell if this has been a shrewd move by the French Government. Will locals frequent cafes and restaurants more often? Will it encourage more visitors to choose France rather than other destinations? I’m not sure as I find that one of the biggest costs when travelling is overnight accommodation rather than meals, so a cut in VAT on accommodation would be more appealing to me.
