As soon as you hear the name Avignon the first thing that springs to mind is the song “Sur le pont d’Avignon”. If you’re like me that’s probably the only thing that you’ve ever heard about Avignon. As soon as I searched on Flickr for an Avignon photo I could see that there was a lot more to the town than a bridge. Athough you can’t downplay the importance of the bridge in Avignon’s history as for many years it offered the only crossing over the Rvier Rhone between Lyon and the Med.

I noticed that the UK based Jet2.com carrier flies from Edinbugh, one of my local airports, to Avignon and have been tempted to visit the area. Have you visited Avignon, what would you recommend doing there?
