In Tuscany bread is eaten as an accompaniment to almost everything, whether that be pasta or fruit. Tuscan bread is traditionally made without salt, so is ideal served with highly salty foods such as cured meat or mature cheese. Some local speciality breads contain ingredients such as chestnut flour and pig fat.

I certainly enjoyed the bread in Tuscany when we visited in May 2008. I always appreciate eating freshly baked bread when I’m travelling in most countries in Europe, as in the UK we generally buy sliced bread from the supermarket to last for several days.
