Leeds and Manchester – why it’s no longer grim up North

There’s still a bit of prejudice hanging over former industrial cities such as Leeds and Manchester in the north of England. Both cities have undergone serious regeneration and there’s lot to do and see in and around Leeds and Manchester.

The forner Corn Exchange in Leeds has been transformed into a trendy gastronomic centre housing restaurants and food retailers. Leeds hosts an annual Festival of Indie and Alternative Rock.

In Manchester many of the canal sides are now pleasant places for a walk. The city is known as the “Shopping Capital of the North”, partly inspired by the presence of luxury lifestyle store Harvey Nichols.
