The island of Flores on the western fringes of the Atlantic Azores Island could be described as either the start or end of Europe, depending on whether you are travelling east or west. Flores has several crater lakes which are an amazing bluey green colour and the island is full of colourful flowers, the most common being hydrangeas and azaleas.
The main town of Santa Cruz has a few small hotels and restaurants, serving the catch of the day. If you’d rather be more remote there are trails which traverse the island affording great sea views and passing waterfalls. You can refresh yourself in the pools at the bottom of these waterfalls.
