Visit Zadar to see the real Croatia and avoid the crowds headed for the more obvious destination of Dubrovnik. Two of the big attractions in Zadar are the Sea Organ, where the music is created by the movement of the waves and the wind, and the Greetings to the Sun, an after dark solar lights show. There’s easy access to hundreds of nearby islands and some pretty cool nightlife. You can even take the small red rowing boat ferry to reach the old town.

I visited Zadar in April 2009 on the inaugural Ryanair flight from Edinburgh to Zadar. Ryanair also flies to Zadar from Pisa, Dublin, Dusseldorf and Stockholm. I was very impressed by the city and the surrounding area and would recommend that you visit the area, either using Zadar for a short break or as a base to visit the surrounding area.
