It’s amazing that there’s such a difference between the exchange rates offered by various UK providers for buying 500 euro. The Which consumer magazine reports a difference in cost of £46, around 10%, between the best and worst providers. If you like to take a fair amount of cash with you when you travel, it is well worth shopping around for the best deal.
Personally I don’t exchange enough cash to bother too much about this, as I use my fee free Nationwide debit card to withdraw cash as I need it or to pay by debit card where possible when I travel in Europe.
